Leadership changes at ALPAR

Fall signals a change in seasons, and for ALPAR, a change has been underway as well. In August, Mary Fisher retired after 18 years at the helm serving as the organization’s third executive director since our inception in 1982 – quite a tenure!

Mary is enjoying an extended road trip through the Lower 48 with her husband, aiming for the East Coast fall colors before returning to Anchorage. We wish her the best and thank her for her nearly two decades of service.

While I am new to the recycling industry, I am not new to Alaska, calling Anchorage my home since 1987. Over the years I have worked in both the nonprofit and private sector, with much of my career focus on communications and public affairs.

In late August, I attended a national recycling industry conference where it appears many of my past skills will be put to use at ALPAR with commodity prices in flux and global market demand remaining uncertain. Yet, there was optimism – for innovation, collaboration and shared goals.

I look forward to meeting many of you (in person, by email or by phone) and feel honored to serve an organization with such a stalwart reputation. Together, you do amazing work for your communities and make a difference for Alaska as a whole.
