ALPAR Flying Cans program nearly doubles collections in Q2

ALPAR Flying Cans helpers in Galena show off their can crusher, a recent addition thanks to a grant from Coca-Cola Bottling of Alaska & the Odom Corporation.

ALPAR Flying Cans participants nearly doubled the total number of pounds of used beverage cans (UBCs) sent in via members of the Alaska Air Carriers Association during the second quarter of this year. Participants sent 5,562 pounds of UBCs during the months of April, May and June. This is compared to 2,944 pounds in the first quarter. UBCs are routed to the Anchorage Recycling Center, which then sends reports to ALPAR, which in turn pays the market rate for UBCs quarterly.

UBCs are infinitely recyclable. The effort keeps a valuable resource out of local landfills and the funds earned are often re-invested in local IGAP Environmental Departments for community outreach and training. Keep up the good work Alaska!
